At Wilson Elementary, we are a community of learners who support and cherish the arts! Your child will attend general music once a week with their homeroom. During that time, we will focus on the four main domains in general music education (below). In addition to their normal music time, the specialist teachers (Art, Music, PE) are together with your learner for a portion of their PLC time which occurs once every six days. We will also join together for a variety of athletics and arts activities on Fridays.

Music education is an essential piece of any child’s education. Many studies show that children involved in the arts score higher and think bigger. Learners who take part in music also have an aptitude for higher ELA and mathematics results. At Wilson, we take this seriously and strive to develop the whole child every day! In music, your child will work on basic music theory, music history, aural training, general and advanced music vocabulary, and much more. They will compose their own music, develop an appreciation for cultures around this vast world, and participate in a performance tailored to their grade level.

At Wilson, we also offer many extracurricular activities in music education. Music theatre, Tamba (African marimba ensemble), and Bel Canto are the main groups, but there are many other performance opportunities and district concerts as well.
